How Do I View and Edit Cookie Settings in my Browser


Viewing and editing browser cookie settings can be useful if you are seeing issues with sites or if you want to adjust your privacy settings. Below I have put together a guide for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. The methods below are compatible with Windows 7,8,10, Vista, and MacOS.

Chrome

  1. Type “chrome://settings”, without the quotes, in your url and hit enter
  2. Go to the Privacy and Security section and click on “Cookies and other site data”
    • Note: You can clear your cookies and other browsing data from the “Clear browsing data” section

  3. Go to the Privacy and Security section and click on “Cookies and other site data”
  4. From here you can check whether your browser accepts cookies.
    • Note: You can also change the type of cookies your browser accepts from here

Firefox

  1. Type “about:preferences”, without the quotes, in your url and hit enter
  2. Clock on the “Privacy & Security” option in the left pane
  3. You will see 3 privacy options that will include your cookie settings. The “Custom” setting gives you more control of your cookie settings as shown in the picture below.


  4. Toggle the circle next to the privacy setting that fits your personal needs

2 Options to clear your cookies:

  1. Option 1: Scroll down to “Cookies and Site Data” then click “Clear Data…”.
  2. Option 2: Scroll down to “History” and click “Clear History”. Next checkmark the “Cookies” box by clicking it followed by any other data on that page you want to be cleared
    • Note: Pick the time range you want deleted


Safari

  1. Open Safari, and go to Preferences
  2. Click the “Privacy” tab. In this tab, you can see your cookie settings and edit them how you like
    • “Prevent cross-site tracking” prevents trackers from using cookies and website data to track you. Select/Check this setting to enable that feature
    • “Block all cookies” prevents advertisers from storing cookies and other data on your computer. Note, this may prevent certain websites from working as expected. Select/Check this setting to enable that feature. Leaving this unchecked will always allow cookies.

  3. Click “Manage Website Data…” in the Privacy tab to remove stored cookies
    • You can click “Remove All” if you would like to remove all stored data, which includes cookies, or you can remove individual site data by clicking on the site and clicking “Remove”

Internet Explorer

  1. Click the “Tools” menu in the upper left corner followed by selecting “Internet Options”. Press “Alt” if the menu bar is hidden
  2. Click the Privacy Section and click “Advanced” under Settings
  3. From here you can adjust your cookie settings
  4. To delete all cookies you can click the Privacy Section and click “Delete” under “Browser history”
  5. Click/Check “Cookies and website data” as one of the options to delete. Click any other data settings you want deleted then click Delete.
  6. To individually delete cookies, click Settings in the “Browser and history” section. Then delete them in the “View objects” or “View files” section

Microsoft Edge

  1. Type “edge://settings/profiles”, without the quotes, in your url and hit enter
  2. Click on the Settings sidebar to the left to open the pane, followed by clicking on “Site Permissions” in the sidebar
  3. Click on “Cookies and site data”
    • From here you can view your cookie settings and edit them to your needs

  4. To delete all cookies, click “See all cookies and site data” within the “Cookies and site data” section
  5. From here you can delete individual cookies, by pressing the trash can icon or remove all the cookies by pressing “Remove all” at the top
